[breaking] MODUS OPERANDI
2025
278 sqft
Collaborative installation and interactive performance

Made in one night using found Imagination Playground blocks to redefine a non-functional space on Governors Island in New York. This video works combines imagery of [breaking] Modus Operandi—an installation done in collaboration with artist Josue Bessiake— with an interactive performance, open to the public as a part of the Institute for Public Architecture’s Open Block House & Earth Day celebration. We led a collaborative movement workshop using the same Imagination Playground blocks to create a space and objects together. Josue Bessiake and Leonie Smith teamed up to compose songs inspired by the functional movement of taking a boat to the island on a daily basis. Tempos drawn from splashing at the edge of the ferry and the movement of water was melodically played atop a boat-like stage constructed by Josue. Collectively we used functional movement around and through the space as a catalyst for improvisational movement and play.
